Hi Guys,
We have a old 4500 with Sup5 10GE and I am trying to SPAN a port on the supervisor to a port on a line card.
However I see severe ouput drops on the line card port. is there some kind of limitation on this supervisor or platform that will cause this?
Thanks
Jacques

You have to consider what kind of volume you have on the port you are spanning. If you are capturing, say, from the 10GE port and spanning to a 1 Gig line card port, then when the 10G reaches 10% load, you will be trying to send too much to the line card port; and you WILL have severe output drops on the line card. Even short bursts will probably not get buffered adequately.

You sort of answered the question, no I am spanning 1Gb - 1Gb. However thinking about "am I overutilizing the port" I realized rx and tx traffic on the source is converted to tx only on the destination, in which case I probably am overutilizing it.
Thanks
Jacques
