Cat 4507 R+E Sup 8E

Hi. We are planning to implement 2 Catalyst 4507 R+E Switches and are currently opting for the latest SUP 8E. Our Main concern is whether or not the SUP 8E supports VSS at this time and is commercially available. There are so many conflicting reports online and we want to be sure before making such a sizable investment. On the cisco datasheet it says VSS support but Software Roadmap.

The Sup 8E code is based on an IOS-XE branch that forked at 3.3.0SG (Q2 2012). It does not today support VSS (introduced on the Sup 7 and 4500X is IOS-XE 3.4 in Q4 2012).

IOS-XE 3.5 (Q3 2013) converged the Cat2k/3k release cycle.

The Sup 8E will support VSS when IOS-XE 3.6.0E is released later this year.

Thanks for your prompt reply Marvin.

We will most probably be going with the Sup 8E and have the two Cat 4507 R+E as standalone for the time being and proceed with the VSS configuration once its commercially available.
