Cat3750-E IPBase to LANBase

Hello,

I need to stack old Catalyst 3750-E licensed with IPBase features in a production stack of 2 Catalyst 3750-X with LanBase features.

I already know that it is not possible to stack LanBase switch to switch with another set of features.

My question is : is it possible to downgrade the set of features from IPBase to LanBase on my c3750-E (i do not need the L3 capabilities) ?

Below are the result of the "show license detail" on each switch :

- Catalyst 3750-E (the old switch)

Switch#sh license detail
Index: 1        Feature: ipbase                            Version: 1.0
        License Type: Permanent
        License State: Active, In Use
        License Priority: Medium
        License Count: Non-Counted
        Store Index: 0
        Store Name: Primary License Storage

Index: 2        Feature: ipservices                        Version: 1.0
        License Type: Evaluation
License State: Active, Not in Use, EULA not accepted
Evaluation total period: 8  weeks 4  days
Evaluation period left: 8  weeks 4  days
        License Priority: None
        License Count: Non-Counted
        Store Index: 0
        Store Name: Evaluation License Storage

- Catalyst 3750-X (the switches in production)

WDM-SW-I3#sh license
Index 1 Feature: ipservices
Period left: 8  weeks 4  days
        License Type: Evaluation
License State: Active, Not in Use, EULA not accepted
        License Priority: None
        License Count: Non-Counted

Index 2 Feature: ipbase
Period left: 0  minute  0  second
Index 3 Feature: lanbase
        Period left: Life time
        License Type: Permanent
        License State: Active, In Use
        License Priority: Medium
        License Count: Non-Counted

All the switch a running the same version of the IOS : c3750e-universalk9-mz.122-53.SE2.bin

Thanks in advance for your help !

Hi,

You cannot do that.

Now however you can compare the features supported on both the switches. Do a "show license feature" (can you paste this output here) on both the switches, 3750-X and 3750-E and see if lanbase is supported on the 3750-E switch.

Now if you have a lanbase image on a 3750-X, you can stack it with another 3750-X running a lanbase feature, but to stack 3750-X with 3750-E you need to run ipbase or ipservices on both the switches.

From the outputs attached i see you can run ipservices now which has the lanbase features in it for the time being so that they are up and running in the stack, and if you want to contine running using ipservices then you need to buy this license.

I hope this answer's your query on this post.

Hi,

On the 3750-E you have two options.  You can boot from ipbase or ipservices

try this command in privilage mode

license boot level ?

C3750-E(config)#license boot level ?

  ipbase      ipbase level

  ipservices  ipservices level

C3750-E(config)#license boot level

HTH

Hi Reza,

thank you for your response. My problem is that I cannot change the licence boot level to "lanbase" on the Catalyst 3750-E. As you say, on the 3750-E I can only boot from ipbase or ipservice.

And I would know if it is possible to downgrade the licence "IPBase" to "LANBase" on this device.

Hi Ranraju,

Thank you for your answer. it's a shame to have to buy additional licenses for features you do not use... 😞

I will try another solution to interconnect my switches.
