Catalyst 2960-L default username\password, IP issue

A client just recently purchased three Catalyst 2960-L switches.  When I went to perform initial setup, I received a 192.168.1.2  IP address instead of one in the 10.0.0.0  network which the setup documentation suggests it should be.  The switch appears to be taking the address 192.168.1.1 instead of 10.0.0.1 as the documentation states.  Also, I am able to connect to the web console at 192.168.1.1  and an authentication prompt saying "Level 15 Access"  comes up.  Unfortunately when I try to enter the username and password  (cisco:cisco)  as the documentation states, it just kicks me back to the auth prompt.

Has anyone else had a similar experience or any idea how to get around this issue?

Thanks,

Andy

Try no username/password.  Try cisco/cisco and Cisco/cisco.

Hi @DenkenGeist IT ,

Have you tried to connect through the console cable?
If you can access the switch in that way, you could create a user and try to enter the GUI with those credentials.

Hello Andy,

you need console connection to the switch

then follow the password recovery procedure descrived below

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/switches/catalyst-2950-series-switches/12040-pswdrec-2900xl.html

You need to find the Mode button and press it before power on the switch, with console cable connected and the client software on the PC started

Release the Mode button when the SYST LED blinks amber and then turns solid green. When you release the Mode button, the SYST LED blinks green.

Once you get access to the switch you can set username/password and new enable password or enable secret.

Of course you need to do this on each switch.

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Step 1 Verify that no devices are connected to the switch. Initially, the switch acts as a DHCP server. Step 2 Confirm that the STAT LED is solid green. This indicates that POST is complete. If the STAT LED turns amber, the device failed POST. Reconnect the AC power cord to the AC power connector of your device and to a grounded AC outlet. If the STAT LED still does not turn green, contact your Cisco representative or retailer. Step 3 Press and hold the Mode button for 3 seconds. When all of the LEDs above the Mode button turn green, release the Mode button immediately. Caution: If the LEDs next to the Mode button blink green, release the button. Blinking green LEDs indicate that the device is already in Setup mode. Continuing to hold the Mode button after the LEDs have turned green, exits the Setup mode. Step 4 Connect a straight-through Category 5 Ethernet cable to a 10/100/1000 Ethernet port on the switch front panel and to the Ethernet port on the PC. Step 5 Verify that the port LEDs on the PC and on your device are solid green or blinking green. This indicates a successful connection. Step 6 Wait 30 seconds. Step 7 To log on to the device using an Internet browser on your PC, type the IP address 10.0.0.1 or 10.0.0.3 in the address bar of your Internet browser and press Enter. Step 8 Type the following default credentials: username: cisco, password: cisco and press Enter. The Configuration Setup wizard is displayed. Click Go to Wizard.

I know this is old, but in case anyone runs across this in the future, the default password for these dumb things is c2960lsm.

Does Anyone know the default password for Catalyst 2960x?

c2960lsm is not working, cisco also doesn't work.

Thank you!
