Catalyst 2960 Models

Hello, I am looking at the Catalyst 2960 models. Can anyone please point me in the direction where I can find out what the characters in the model number stand for i.e. XR-48FPD-I?

I know 48 is port 48 ports but want to make sure what does F, P, D, I stand for? Is there anywhere I can look this up because I am always searching to make sure, don't like guessing and takes time. I am sure after getting familiar it will get easier - any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

KNM

Most of your questions are answered here:

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/catalyst-2960-x-series-switches/data_sheet_c78-728232.html?cachemode=refresh

Your example, basically, as I interpret it (no guarantee):

  • FP seems to be valid only for 48 port models, "Full Power" allows all 48 ports to be powered with 15W or alternatively up to 24 ports with 30W
  • D seems to be consistent over the whole 2960 family: 2 SFP-uplinks
  • -I at the end is valid only for 2960XR and means IP base, including IPv4 and v6 routing, limited OSPF etc...

Other Letters:

  • LP Only for 48 port models: "Lower Power", up to 24 ports 15W or 12 ports 30W
  • P alone (no F or L) for 24 port models: up to 24 ports 15W or 12 ports 30W
  • S seems to be consistent with all 2960X or XR and means 4 SFP uplinks
  • Q seems to be valid only for 2960X-24: 2 SFP and 2 10/100/1000 twisted pair uplinks
  • -L LAN base image, only for 2960X models (apparently not for XR models)

Compare for yourself, if in still in doubt ask pre-sales, they should be able to give you an authoritative answer.

Thanks MiKa!

I did call pre-sales. After reading your interpretation I did go over the fact sheet again and it started to make better sense to me. I do wish I could get and authoritative answer, however I have a better understanding now.

Hi KMN,

yes, I know, sometimes pre-sales can be a bit clueless, same to the people writing the data-sheets.

Best regards, MiKa
