Catalyst 3560E advipservices on 12.2(55)

Hello,

We have a couple of 3560E switches that have advanced ip services license installed. I know that avipservices is EoL but until 12.2(50)SE5 we haven't got any problems with them. With 12.2(50)SE5 switch boots properly and we are able to use ipservices features :

Unfortunately to support new CVR-X2-SFP10G we need 12.2(55) IOS. The problem is that it does not accept advipservices license. We can either use ipbase or evaluation version of ipservices, both are not an option.

I have spoken to our cisco partner and they told us that we would have to buy a new ipservices licenses. This sounds ridiculous as advanced ip services license contained all the features that ipservices has. Why should we pay twice for the same software?

We have a couple of 3560E that were delivered during last 12 months and they came with ipservices license. Unfortunately all older 3560E have advanced ip services lincense installed.

I don't think I am the only one with this problem. Has anyone managed to find a solution for that? Apparently there is no official option to migrate from advanced ip services to ip services.

Thanks

Your partner is incorrect.  Gather all the SERIAL NUMBERS of the appliance running Advanced IP Services (I mean ALL OF THEM) and send an email to license@cisco.com.  They are keep a sharp eye on situations like this and they should be able to assign someone to your case in 1 hour of your email arriving into their inbox.

Ok now that's wierd.

Firstly, no offense to you, but I would contact Cisco Licensing DIRECT instead of asking your Cisco Partner to do so.

Secondly, could be the timezone.  Can you craft an email to them again but schedule the delivery for 00:00 GMT?

I have dealt with the licensing people several times in the last 2 years and they have yet to disappoint me.

Glad to be of some sort of assistance.

May I request if you can mark this thread as "Answered" please?

My partner has already contacted cisco licensing :

I’m afraid we seem to be going around in Circles with Cisco’s licensing and Pre-sales team as we cannot seem to get a straight answer (recent feedback below). As a result I am not currently in a position to advise if you can upgrade the licensing as no upgrade path seems to exist to get you where you need to go.

And their responses :

Below is the response I got from the licensing team, and I have tried to contact Cisco pre-sales team but they don’t respond…!

I believe this issue should be forwarded to our Cisco AM who may be able to help. In the meantime I shall update you if I hear anything back from Cisco.

“The Licensing Team only issues license files that have already been purchased based on the products from our customer's sales order number.

Therefore, please contact your local Cisco Sales Representative for assistance with ordering, part number look up, and/or pricing.

We've been buying 3560E switches for like 2.5 years and half of them have advanced ip services license.

Problem solved. Cisco licensing has sent me a proper license files to downgrade advanced ip services to ip services. Thank you leolaohoo for your tip about emailing licensing directly.
