Hello!
I'm curious if the Catalyst 4500-E VSS supports WS-X4712-SFP-E and WS-X4724-SFP-E linecards (not for VLS, for regular ports). All the config guides state that WS-X4712-SFP+E is supported, but there's no info about WS-X4712-SFP-E and WS-X4724-SFP-E.
Seems, they should be supported as they are 47xx Series, but I want to have a proof.
Solved! Go to Solution.

It states it supports VSS in the first doc with those blades, the first DOC is what the SUP can do and the 2nd DOC is what the actual chassis supports

It depends entirely upon your Supervisor card and the IOS XE version running. If you go HERE it will state that X4712-SFP-E and WS-X4724-SFP-E are supported starting with IOS XE version 3.5.0E (Sup7E).

I'm planning to use WS-X45-SUP7-E.
Thanks for the reply, but your links are about "Linecrads supported on the Catalyst 4500E", not "Linecrads supported on the Catalyst 4500E with VSS".
If just found something that can be named a proof (https://supportforums.cisco.com/document/124626/virtual-switching-system-vss-configuration-cisco-4500-series-switches) - a guy posts output of the "show module" in VSS:
Switch#sh module
Switch Number: 1 Role: Virtual Switch Active
Chassis Type : WS-C4507R+E
Power consumed by backplane : 40 Watts
Mod Ports Card Type Model Serial No.
---+-----+--------------------------------------+------------------+-----------
1 48 10/100/1000BaseT (RJ45) WS-X4648-RJ45-E JAE2017086U
2 12 1000BaseX SFP WS-X4712-SFP-E CAT2015L24C
Seems, it's enough for me to be certain about WS-X4712-SFP-E to be ok with VSS.

Maybe. What I was looking for is: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/XE3-6-0E/15-22E/configuration/guide/xe-360-config/vss.html#pgfId-1138590

Thanks. There were no plans to use 'WS-X42xy', 'WS-X44xy' or 'WS-X45xy', question was on the WS-X4712-SFP-E and WS-X4724-SFP-E
Your link does show info about WS-X4712-SFP-E and WS-X4724-SFP-E linecards to be supported by the Catalyst 4500E, not Catalyst 4500E in the VSS.
As I've stated already, I've found info that is proof for me for this. Also, found release notes for the IOS-XE 3.6 which list this support - http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/XE3-6-0E/15-22E/configuration/guide/xe-360-config/vss.html
