Catalyst 4900M with CVR-X2-SFP Port Naming Question

Hi,

Could you please help me with the following issue.

What port names would we get if we use CVR-X2-SFP plug-ins on Catalyst 4900M?

We are gonna use CVR-X2-SFP in the X2 1 – X2 8 embedded slots of Catalyst 4900M. We also use WS-X4908-10GE in Slot 2 and Slot 3 and we are gonna use 8 CVR-X2-SFP in each.

So we’ll have 24 CVR-X2-SFP. Will the naming be like:

GigabitEthernet 1/1…1/8 (X2 1 – X2 8)

GigabitEthernet 2/1…2/8 (Slot 2)

GigabitEthernet 3/1…3/8 (Slot 3)

Or

GigabitEthernet 1/1…1/8 (X2 1 – X2 8)

GigabitEthernet 2/9…2/16 (Slot 2)

GigabitEthernet 3/17…3/24 (Slot 3)

?

What will happen if we use X2-10GB-SR in some of these slots and CVR-X2-SFP in the other?

Hi,

I have never used the 4900M series before, but looking at the data sheet only the half cards (max 2) can support CVR-X2-SFP modules and not the embedded 10 Gig ports.  So, the max you can install is 32 1Gig SFPs.

see table-4 in this link:
