Hi guys,
I'm hoping a Cisco engineer can definitively answer this question (my boss is really, really upset with me) :
Can a Catalyst 4948 accommodate a 10 G SFP module? Or can they only accomodate 1 G SFPs?
There is another version of the Catalyst 4948, the "Catalyst 4948 10 Gigabit Ethernet". I am not referring to this variant model.
Thanks in advance,
Joe

Per the datasheet on the 4948 (non-10g version) it only supports 1gb SFP's.
The 4948E switch supports the 10gb SFP+ ports. Here's a datasheet on the 4948E which has a direct comparsion of all 3 models:

Look down at table 2 on the 2nd link for a comparsion of what supports what in 10gb.

Hi Joe,
4948 can only support 1G(SFP) and 4948-10gig can support 10G(X2) uplinks which is the main difference between the models. Both have 10/100/1000 RJ45 ports. The uplinks are fixed.

Karthik.

Thank you, Karthik. I really appreciate this info. However, could a Cisco engineer please chime in as well? I need a definitive word from a Cisco representative.

Just in case a Cisco (pre-sales) engineer hasn't seen your post, you can also check this weblink.
