Catalyst 6509 Crashes ...

Hello...

I would appreciate someone could give me some help, trying to understand what is going on with Catalyst 6509 core switch...

From time to time (mainly on Mondays) the switch unexpectedly reloads letting me without any clue on the problem that is causing this malfunction.

Since I don’t usually work with Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Switches, I’m a little unfamiliarized with these switches debug and troubleshooting.

Hi,

If you have a Syslog server configured, you may able to find something point to an issue.  Also, your IOS is pretty old, and this issue sounds like a bug in the IOS.  An upgrade may resolve your issue.

See if you can find any "crashinfo" files/directory.  If you do, attach them to this thread.

Switch will not leave any crashinfo as it thinks that it was powered down by powering it off:

System returned to ROM by power cycle (SP by power on)

Last reset from power-on

If you see this happening almostly on same time - then better to check environment of the sserver room and see what may cause the loss of power to the switch by that time. Possibly worth changing the power source. And then further consider PS problem or power convertor problem on sup. Though it is worth to check power source first.
