During a CatOS to IOS conversion we experienced a power failure - :(
After we recovered from the power failure, the switch boots into the SP rommon mode.
Issuing the "boot" command (rommon> boot) the switch boots to the RP mode, reads the new IOS image and all seems fine.
ROUTER# show version reveals the RP config-register is 0x2102.
ROUTER# remote command switch show bootvar reveals the switch config-register is 0x8002.
I know the SP config-register should be 0x2102.
Upon booting, the new IOS file is read but our saved config file is ALWAYS ignored.
I have tried to reset the SP config-register with no luck.
Anyone know how to change the SP config-register settings from SP rommon, RP rommon, router# or other?
Thanks for ANY help
Frank

Did you try:
conf t
config-register 0x2102
wr mem
remote command switch show version >> The wrm mem from RP should overwrite the SP.

Hey bosalaza, Thanks.
My steps in order
ROUTER#(config) config-register 0x2102
ROUTER#(config) host VASSR0014
VASSR0014#(config) boot system flash sup-bootflash:--IOS file name--
VASSR0014# wr
VASSR0014# reload
Upon reloading
router#
SP config-register still set to 0x8002
If I re-power the box, the boot process stops at SP rommon.
At this point I can issue confreg and change the SP boot parameters but don't know how to set them to 0x2102 as this is NOT an option. The SP rommon confreg is menu driven and 0x2102 is NOT one of the options.
If I issue the rommon boot command, the SP loads with a LOT of hex errors messages, then switches to the RP and loads the new IOS file found on the sup-bootflash and defaults to a clean config.
Any other ideas?
THANKS AGAIN!!!

Sorry I mistook your issue for something else. Here is how to change the SP rommon through the menu driven process.
You can change the confreg for the SP from the ROMMON mode. Reload, issue a break and go to rommon.
then :
rommon 3 > priv
You now have access to the full set of monitor commands.
Warning: some commands will allow you to destroy your
configuration and/or system images and could render
the machine unbootable.
rommon 5 > confreg

Hi Mark,
THANKS for the support
Details of hardware
Single sup720-3B with PFC3B
Started the system with a power on, followed your steps from the SP rommon 1 (priv, confreg etc.)
No error messages received from any typed-in commands. Once in the ROUTER#, I checked the switch config and still set to 0x8002. The router config-register is 0x2102.
I set the host name, boot flash and write.
VASSROO14# reset
System restarted, passed through the SP and onto the RP. ALL settings were saved from previous write mem.
I checked the switch config-register and still set to 0x8002, router was still 0x2102.
I reset multiple times with the exact same outcome.
I then repowered the box and ended back at the rommon 1 prompt of the SP.
I issued the boot command and the system reloaded as normal but this time with a clean config ROUTER#
Issued a remote command to check the switch config-register, still set to 0x8002, router was set to 0x2102
Turns out as long as I do not repower the box everything is fine and works as expected.
If I repower the box, I ALWAYS end up at the rommon 1 prompt.
If I issue the reset command this is what I see:

Try rebooting the other supervisor and change the config register in rommon. When you are in rommon type "confreg 0x2102" and hit enter and then type "reset" That will reboot the supervisor.

Does the switch have dual sup? When you wr mem and reload and you have dual sup the standby takes over and it might not have sync with the active yet, which is probably why it did not change the config-register on SP. BTW, when you changes the config-register from the RP, I di dnot see if the SP's config-register actually changed or it shoudl say it will be "2102" on next reload. Did you verify that?
