I got a terminal server with 2 octal cables attached to it. each octal cable has 8 RJ45 plugs. I installed a patch panel today and plug them into the back of the patch panel. I'll use the front panel as Out of Band ports.
However I can't access other device from my terminal server. I used rollover cable between the patch panel and my device. I was thinking maybe the octal cable is already rolled over. here are my partial output.

Hi,
The octal cable is already rolled, you need a straight cable from the patch panel to your device, and your posted configuration seems fine.

Mohammed Mahmoud.

Wayne,
The following used to be recommended somewhere in CCO and is current:
http://www.conserver.com/consoles/msock.html
http://www.conserver.com/consoles/
For something like a Cat 5500 you would normally use an OLD Style cisco headshell and straight through cable from the laptop. A router/asa would use a rollover.
Conversely you might use an octal into a back to back panel and patch a rollover into a 5500 switch and straight through into a router or modern ASA 5500.
The zeros are a bit of a giveaway and indicate negative comms, so check your patching, and look for the lights on the ASYN 32/16 or terminal server.
Hope this helps
kind regards
dave
