Hi Community,
I have a situation where I need two hosts connected to a 2960G switch to send wire-speed broadcast traffic (all F's), between the two hosts. The two hosts are the only devices on this isolated VLAN and there is no layer 3 interface for the switch on this vlan. Also, storm control is disabled.
I am seeing a high number of packet drops on both of these ports. This happens both with mls qos disabled, and with it enabled.
What I don't understand is why two ports (at 100m, I might add) that only communicate with each other, will show packet drops ever. I would think that the switch is able to pass wire-speed 100m between 2 ports.
If anyone has any insight into the handling of broadcast traffic at an asic level, I would really appreciate the insight.
thank you
This leads me to suspect that the switch treats broadcast traffic differently from unicast traffic.
