Cisco 2970 - boots to Stardust LOTR, not ROMMON

gamccorkle

Here's a first for me.

Cisco 2970.  We were reloading the IOS and something went awry.  The switch rebooted and now we come up to the following prompt.

It's not rommon, it's almost a test os that the cisco ios runs under beneath.  Or perhaps a failsafe bootloader.

Any ideas as to how to get the IOS restored to the flash and boot?  The bin file is there, but I can't archive or place a new TAR with the commands available.

Uh-oh.  Looks like you've gotten hold of a development appliance loaded with an Cisco-only internal OS.

An old "IOS" but if you want to get into a correct IOS you'll need to load the correct IOS via XModem.

It could definitely be.  I did make another effort similar to password recovery for the 2970.  It took me into rommon mode which allowed me to manually boot the right flash file.

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/switches/catalyst-2950-series-switches/12040-pswdrec-2900xl.html

However, after rebooting the switch after a successful boot on the right flash file it boots to the same stardust mode.  For now I have a second 2970 to get me by.  Next weekend I'll be tearing the flash down to reload everything and see if I can get it squared away.

I've attached a pic of the rack. This is my home rack.  A few more filler panels and cable ducts for the verticle wiring and I should be good to go.  I use this for POCs of AWS/AZURE cloud connectivity for businesses.
