Cisco 3120 blade switches

Question regarding the stack cables.

I read that when you stack 2 or more switches Cisco recommends cabling switch-1 port-1 to switch-2 port-2 and switch-1 port-2 to switch-2 port-1. When these were installed in our datacenter, we only had one cable and the tech cabled it from switch-1 port-1 to switch-2 port-1 (apparently not the recommended way).

We received the remaining stack cables to get these fully redundant and want to add the 2nd stack cable to the switches. My question is, does it really matter what ports the stack cables are connected to? Since these switches are already live and being used we would like to just add the 2nd stack cable without interruption. But would be cabled from switch-1 port-1 to switch-2 port-1 and switch-1 port-2 to switch-2 port-2.

Thanks.

Hi,

If you ware connecting across multiple blade centers, I would say you do it the way Cisco recommends, but within the same chassis it does not matter.
