We have just purchased Cisco 3750X 24 S switches (QTY 2), last week we put them in prodcution in simple Layer 2 mode. No Core, just act as Access switch in order to only check the performace and availibility of switches.
But strange thing I have noticed the highest cpu utilization, cpu sits on 13 to 14% and from historical logs it hit above 60%. I am confused what is happening. Remember to terminate copper connection we have inserted Copper SFP Modules on both switches.
Topology like as
Both switches connected on Layer 2 mode via trunk, in LAN environment we have here 7 3Com 2824 Management switches which are terminated on Copper SFP modules at Cisco 3750X 24 S. All 3Comm Switches uplink are terminated on Cisco 3750 Switch 1, another switch is idle. Whole setup is running on VLAN1 .
Logs are attached for your reference,
Please advice why CPU sits on high peak..
Also refer no port in TCP and UDP packets in show ip traffic. any abnormal condition you predict..
Basically, In near days we plan to make these switches as Core layer and run intervlan routing, HSRP/VRRP and OSPF. But in this cpu usage how we can go ahead until this resolved..

HI Fahad,
Try cisco EEM to find out what causes High CPU, it is cisco event manager installed on your device

40% is not normal as per my understanding, as as increasing load might take it above 50 which is alarming.
Marek, pls advice EEM configuration , also from traps the reason is rsa key generation.

Hi Fahad,
40% is normal or fhe 3750x platform. You likely will see most utilization in the hulc_led processs
THanks

Means no IOS will make cpu down, my average is 20% and some speaks touch 40 and 45..

Correct, is there any issue with this switch when running at this utilization ?
If so, that something we need to look at. The utilization itself isnt a problem.
If any other issues occur that would be
to find high cpu easiest is to configure
process cpu threshold .....
This will give you information regarding cpu spikes on console, log and syslog
with the 3 highest processes included

Hi Fahad,
There is no such thing like 10 30 40 60 80 % is normal, all depends of what role device plays in your network
EEM Configuration is stright forward: for example
event manager applet highcpu
event snmp oid 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.6.1 get-type exact entry-op ge entry-val 60 poll-interval 1
action 0.1 syslog msg High CPU DETECTED
action 0.2 cli enable
action 0.3 cli show processes cpu sort >> bootflash:highcpu.txt
action 0.4 cli show sys inter process cpu >> bootflash:highcpu.txt
action 0.5 cli show sys inter mts buff sum >> bootflash:highcpu.txt
action 0.6 cli show system resources >> bootflash:highcpu.txt
action 0.7 cli show processes cpu sort >> bootflash:highcpu.txt
action 0.8 cli show processes cpu history >> bootflash:highcpu.txt
action 0.9 cli show hardware internal cpu-mac inband stats >> bootflash:highcpu.txt
as an action you specify almost anything,
In my opinion EEM is huge and very usfull, check cisco www for more information and possiblilites
you can find translation snmp oid using below link
http://tools.cisco.com/Support/SNMP/do/BrowseOID.do?local=en

Hi!
I'm using 3750X-24 SNMP enable the purchase and if there's a 99% CPU Utilization doepda.
Once the problem is resolved as soon as this also for IOS devices not seem the answer is exactly the problem.
Other 3750X similar problem, contact TAC to know that you are.
I'll wait for fast processing in cisco.
I'll gonna realize ...!
Please find out how dapjom.
