Cisco 3850 stack mix of UPOE and POE

Hi all,

I've been using the Catalyst 3850 for a few years now, but only now I am in the situation where I'm asked to stack a mix of UPOE with POE switches.

Does anybody know or tested a scenario like this ?

My plan is to bulild a stack of:

  • 1 x WS-C3850-12X48U;
  • 2 x WS-C3850-48U
  • 1 x WS-C3850-48P

I was reading an article on spiceworks where a guy stacked a 3850-24p UPOE with a 3850 POE+ and he concluded that UPOE and POE+ are not compatible in the same stack. He did not mention anything about how many power supplies were in his configuration.

The Cisco documentation (which is not that up to date since they discuss about IOS-XE 3.3) is saying:

StackWise-480 supports a mixed stack of any Catalyst 3850 models (48 ports 10/100/1000, 24 ports 10/100/1000, and 12/24 Ethernet SFP ports;

Any ideas ?

Thanks,

N

This will work as long as the entire stack is running the same firmware and license.
