Hi,
We have two WS-C3850-24T-E switches stacked together and running the IP Services Licence. We are planning on getting a WS-C3850-12XS-E as we need around 12 x 10gig ports to connect to our servers and the only network modules that can be supported with the WS-C3850-24T-E are the 4x1 GE or 2x10GE.
I need to confirm if WS-C3850-12XS-E can be stacked with our current switch stack of WS-C3850-24T-E?
Also, if anyone has a better solution which is cost effective, do let me know.
Thanks.

Hello,
StackWise-480 supports a mixed stack of any Catalyst 3850 models (48 ports 10/100/1000, 24 ports 10/100/1000, and 12/24 Ethernet SFP ports; see Figure 1). You can mix the switches with different number of access ports (48, 24, and 12), different type of access ports (copper and fiber, PoE, and non-PoE-capable), and different network modules. But all switches in one stack must have the same version of IOS XE and the same feature set license. A mixed stack of LAN base switches with IP base or IP services is not supported. Catalyst 3850 Series Switches with a LAN base feature set can only stack with other Catalyst 3850 Series LAN base switches. The same applies to IP base and IP services as well.

I realize this is an old post, but with newer equipment available I need some clarification. The answer specifically states 10/100/100 switches. I was wondering if this still applies to adding a stack member of model WS-C3850-24XU-S using 10GbE to an existing stack of WS-C3850-48U model which has 10GbE SFPs installed for the uplink ports on the network module. Existing stack is currently running IOS ver cat3k_caa-universalk9.SPA.03.03.03.SE.150-1.EZ3.bin. Also, how does this affect which code should be used on the stack?

HI Madhu / All
Is WS-C3850-24S-S (1Gig Fibre switch) stackable with WS-C3850-12XS-S (10Gig fibre switch)
Thanks
