All tips from the emergency recovery do not work for me, system always does the same and stops.

System wanted to perform a microcode upgrade, let it run through and let loose for 60 minutes.
Unfortunately, he always goes into this mode and I can not get to the "Switch:" Console.

Can it be that the microcode upgrade has shot me up the system?

Do you have any idea if the system can still be saved?

Thank you very much

Ok, so the switch is in ROMMON?
What happens if the switch is forced to load a different IOS, like 3.6.9 or 16.6.7?

I dont know, because i cant type anything in the console after he freeze.

The entry i copy runs 4-5 times over the console than the switch stops.

On the Front all Status LED will light on.

STAT = Green

DUPLX = Green

SPEED = Green

STACK = GREEN

SYST = GREEN

ACTV = ORGANGE

XPS= ORANGE

S-PWR = ORANGE

On Bootup to hold the MODE Button has no effect.

Pull the power of the switch. Leave it off for about 20 seconds.
Apply power.
LEAVE THE SWITCH ALONE overnight. This could be CSCvq53573.

I Have two 3850s with exactly same problem,

Did you figure it out how to recover this?

Create a new thread with the output from console.

Hi,

hopefully here is a solution for his.

Motherboard serial number made in the same year but 3 weeks apart.

Contact Cisco TAC and organize for an RMA.
IMPORTANT:  Do not waste time and RMA while you still can.

well I think there is no valid support contract anymore for this switch, so I can't open an RMA or case at Cisco

As long as there is proof of ownership, in form of either a delivery documentation or a Purchase Order, anyone can RMA a 3850 WITHOUT the need for a valid Service Contract as long they read-and-understand that 3650/3850 are covered under Cisco's Enhanced Limited Lifetime Warranty (E-LLW).

Hi, our customer has similar problem.
One of the switch in stack 3850 was down. We do RMA - after 10 years (no contract active, just warranty)

Then try to upgrade old switch WS-C3850-24T-L  3.02.02 to 16.12.X.

After this old switch did not start.

So we will do second RMA propably...

If the switch does not show any characters or make any fan noise, then it is a hardware failure.

It happens even to the best of us.

We ever get any resolution to this. I'm dead in the water here and I have no idea how to provide proof of purchase for something 11 years old

Call Cisco TAC and give it a try.

The worse thing TAC is going to do is say "no".

Thanks. I just ended up buying a used one on ebay for $40 that was already upgraded to 16.12 and i'll just move the current SFP+ network module over to it.

Cisco should really warn people to update in order and not jump several versions at a time, also probably should regression test these things. Outages cost real money.
