Hello,
I have a Cisco 4010 Ethernet switch that is currently connected to a Moxa EDS-208A. The 4010 interface is an access port configured as below:
switchport mode access
switchport access vlan 50
The Moxa switch only has hosts connected to it, and doesn’t support vlans. I am having an issue with this port on the 4010 going down every few days, and currently can’t get it to come back up. It is showing as down and line protocol also is down. Does anyone know if these switches are compatible? Since the Moxa switch doesn’t support VLANs I am assuming it would disregard the tagging.

I am not familiar with this model of Cisco switch, but assume that the switches should be compatible. We do not have enough information to know why the switch port is down. But can address the vlan/tagging possibility: the Cisco switch port configured as an access port sends Ethernet frames with no vlan tagging. So vlans are NOT the issue here.

- You may check the logs on the cisco 4010 switch when that happens , but in general the use of unmanaged switches is strongly discouraged in modern networks,
