Cisco 4221 - Unable to connect to console

Hi,

I'm trying to install a Cisco 4221 router and I'm struggling to connect to the console to do the initial setup.  I'm following this guide

and using a Mac (OS v10.12).  Here's how I'm trying to connect:

Mac (USB port) -> USB to Ethernet adaptor -> Crossover cable -> Blue console RJ45 port on 4221

When I do ls -ltr /dev/*usb* the mac shows no results.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Can you please remove everything then connect step by step.

Just open putty or hyperterminal ,, then start the router . i hope it will work .

Many thanks for the diagram!  I will order those cables now and try it out.
