after that , I desired to TEST the core 2 by switching off the core switch no. one , BUT ,I notice that the core2 made RELOAD immediately , and takes some minutes to return back , BUT , the network still not working when core 2 working a lone .
I checked the booting of core2 by issuing :
CORE2# sh boot
BOOT variable = sup-bootdisk:s72033-ipservices_wan-vz.122-18.SXF13.bin,12;
CONFIG_FILE variable does not exist
BOOTLDR variable does not exist
Configuration register is 0x2102
Standby is not present.
After that , I turned ON core switch no . 1 , NOW BOTH CORE 1 AND CORE 2 ARE ON , AND I NOTICE THAT THE WHOLE NETWORK IS DOWN AND NOT WORKING .
WHEN I TURED OFF THE CORE SWITCH NO 2 , THE SYSTEM GOES UP AND WORK ( ONLY WHEN CORE 1 WORK A LONE , NOT LIKE OLD TIMES I WAS WORKING ON BOTH ))
I ISSUED THE FOLLOWING ON CORE 1
sh verboot
BOOT variable =
CONFIG_FILE variable =

Hi,
It appear that your IOS is crashing due to memory issues. You should download a newer version of IOS and load it to the sup. What model sup do you have?

Are you sure???
I've never seen a Sup720 with PCMCIA card. Only the Sup1 and Sup2 have PCMCIA card.

If you have physcial access of the chassis, take a picture of the supervisor blade. The model number is located on the upper left-hand corner of the blade. The blade is normally colored light-blue on the edges.

هi will do that tomrrow morning .
but could you pleade tell me what kind of problem i may have ?
and the first core switch core1 ( working good ) and its booting is :
core1
--------
sh boot
BOOT variable =
CONFIG_FILE variable =
BOOTLDR variable =
Configuration register is 0x2102
sh boot
BOOT variable =
CONFIG_FILE variable =
BOOTLDR variable =
Configuration register is 0x2102

and core2 ( have the problem ) its booting is :
CORE2# sh boot
BOOT variable = sup-bootdisk:s72033-ipservices_wan-vz.122-18.SXF13.bin,12;
CONFIG_FILE variable does not exist
BOOTLDR variable does not exist
Configuration register is 0x2102
Standby is not present.
why we have that difference between them ?!!!
==============
can i check the config reg in SP by issuing this command :
remote command switch sh ver ?!!!!
thanks .
11-21-2011 02:29 PM
I'm not sure what the problem is. All I can see that doesn't make sense is that your "Sup720" has a PCMCIA card. This doesn't make sense. I want to verify a number of angles first.
As Reza has recommended, have you tried using an updated code since SXF is a very, very old IOS version.
By the way, Reza is one of the premier 6500 contributor here. If he can't find anything wrong with it ...
11-21-2011 02:42 PM
Leo,
Appreciate for the compliment.
Night,
If these 2 switches are exactly the same, can you provide "sh mod" form the good switch?
If you have a CF card, you can insert it into the good 6500 sup and copy the file into it. Once that is copied you can put it in the bad one and see if it boots. Before you copy the file, make sure you delete the files on the CF card and format it.
HTH
11-21-2011 02:52 PM
hi ,
YES THE CORE 1 IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS CORE2
could you please translate your post by using the command ? please !!
as i told you before i am a new in trouble shooting the ios and copying IOS .
WHAT IF I DO NOT HAVE CF CARD ? FROM WHERE I CAN DOWNLOAD IOS OF CORE1 TO COPY AT CORE2 ?!!
thanks .
11-21-2011 03:12 PM
If you don't have a CF card, then you need to download a new IOS from Cisco's site (need a valid Smartnet contract) and use the Xmodem to load it. Xmodem is very slow, it will probably take all night to load a 140Mb file.
I don't have a 6500 in front of me to use ? mark.
from the good switch,
What is the output of sh mod, dir, and sh ver?
HTH
11-21-2011 03:16 PM
tomorrow i will do all the required command and i will past here .
thanks Raza .

o k , i still have core1 6509 running ok , can i take the IOS from it and copy to core2 ?
if yes , could you please tell me how ??
thanks .
11-22-2011 12:44 PM
Must be an IOS bug then when it reported PCMCIA card.
Ok, so if you have a CF slot, then you can copy the IOS from the good supervisor card to a CF and get the bad supervisor to boot from the CF.
Firstly, you need to get a CF < 2Gb in size. Take note that not all CF are supported to it'll have to be trial-and-error.
When insert the CF into the slot of the good supervisor engine and do the following:
1. Format the CF: format disk0:
2. Copy the IOS from the good supervisor card to the CF: copy sup-bootdisk:s72033-ipservices_wan-vz.122-18.SXF13.bin disk0:s72033-ipservices_wan-vz.122-18.SXF13.bin
3. Once copy is complete, run a MD5 hash check just to make sure: verify /md5 disk0:s72033-ipservices_wan-vz.122-18.SXF13.bin
4. IF there are no errors, eject the CF and insert it into the CF slot of the bad supervisor card.
If CORE 1 is the bad supervisor card, then eject the WS-X6148-45AF (S/N: SAL1210HTDG) blade from Slot 3.
5. In ROMmon, enter the command: boot disk0:s72033-ipservices_wan-vz.122-18.SXF13.bin
Hope this fixes things.
NOTE: The IOS you are running is very, very old. Are you sure you still want to use this version?
