Cisco 6880-X-LE No VSLOTs Left?

I am trying to create a new fiber extension off of my 6880 X LE catalysts but the fex is stuck at "Registration" and the logs show:

%FEXMGR-SW1-3-FEXMGR_MAX_VSLOT_ALLOC: No VSLOTs are left for new module to allocate. Enable Temp VSLOT to allow 'renumber' of module if in case of RMA.

How do I change the maximum number of VSLOTs? I don't see any documentation on this.

 - Use latest (advisory) release on the 6880 : https://software.cisco.com/download/home/284855056/type/280805680/release/15.5.1-SY8  , also referring to :https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/catalyst-6800ia-switch/white_paper_c11-728265.html

The term “FEX ID” denotes an Instant Access client stack or a Fabric PortChannel. With earlier releases, the 21 clients had to be deployed in such a way that there were a total of 12 FEX IDs or 12 stacks. With the 15.2(1)SY release, there is no restriction on how the 42 clients can be deployed. (They can all be standalone clients or configured in stacks.)

The following output shows a fully scaled Instant Access system and the corresponding platform resources used.

6880X-VSS#show fex system platform usage

Therefore check if using latest software version can help.

 - Please try :      Switch# module provision update fex fex_id temp-vslot-allow enable

Hi, thank you I'll give that a shot but what I probably should have said first is that I am trying to link up 4 more switches inside that fiber extension. It's my (limited) understanding that that temp slot will work for 1 switch but not all 4, right? Is there no option to raise the "Max VSLOT" allocation?

 - Note  that connecting switches to fex ports is not supported , to get an overview of available vslots usage issue : Switch# show fex system platform usage

So what I am ultimately looking at is, that there is a maximum of 42 clients and that maximum cannot be altered? If I need to have more network capacity, what would be the most logical way to go beyond 42? Another catalyst? Thanks for all your help with this, I'll close this out shortly.

               >...what would be the most logical way to go beyond 42

 - Not sure on that , you probably need to involve TAC for that question.
