Hi,
Just wondering if anybody knew what would happen if I installed a 32MB (MEM870-32F=) flash upgrade card in to a Cisco 871 router that already had 28MB flash onboard already? Would the router boot seeing 52MB (the max this router can have) or would it fail completely since the combined total would be over 52MB?
I know you can get a 24MB upgrade card but they are quite expensive...
Thanks.

Hi Oliver,
It will work and you will have 52Mb (20Mb internal + your 32Mb card will replace currently installed 8Mb). You current 28Mb indicates that there is 8Mb card installed at the moment that you would need to take out for this upgrade, as router has only 1 flash slot.
Guide on replacement that could be helpful:

Kind Regards,
Ivan

Thanks Ivan. I'm pretty sure, although I'll chceck at work on Monday, that the 871's card slot is empty... The model I have is a cisco871-sec-k9 with 28MB default. I'll check it out and report back.
Thanks.

Hi Ivan,
I opened up the 871 and found the card in the pic below insalled in to the StrataFlash slot...
From some Google Searching it seems to be a 8MB card. I'll go ahead and swap it with a new 32MB card which will get me to my 52MB limit.
Thanks for the advice!
