Hi,

Is Cisco 881 router able to perform packets inspection up to application level?

Eg: If a user is using Internet Explorer, will the router be smart enough to detect it using IE and route to path A. And it using FireFox, it will route through path B.

If possible, what feature is require on the router and how do I go about doing it, thanks.

Packet inspection?  You'll need to dedicated firewall appliance for that.

Hi,

Is it possible to use NBAR together with PBR or ZBF for the packet inspection?

Ok, let me back off.

One important question needs to be ask:  What is the WAN speed?

The WAN speed is yet to be confirm as this is a new implementation. Will there be any issus if the WAN speed is low beside traffic is bottleneck at the WAN side?

The concern I had is if enable NBAR or ZBF, it will consume alot of CPU and memory resource. Thus affect the performance of the 881 router.

Is there any other issues that I had to look at?

I want to make sure your WAN speed is less than the maximum capabilities of your router.  I hate to see you buy a router only to realize you can't achieve the maximum bandwidth of your WAN because your router is deemed "too small".

Answer that question first before choosing the model of your router.
