Hi Guys,
I've come across a strange issue with x2 of my Cisco 887 VA's. I upgraded the IOS this morning to c880data-universalk9-mz.153-3.M8.bin when I reloaded the devices, my routers believes the images to be invalid, error message below.
I thought maybe there was an issue with the downloaded file, however the MD5 was fine. No problem I thought, I will use the very latest image, that being c880data-universalk9-mz.154-3.M6.bin. This also does not work. I've tried using ROMMON and TFTP, and also tried to boot from USBFLASH0:, each time I receive the error message below.
I've also gone back and tried some really old images for the 887 VA, but simply nothing works. ROMMON does not even allow me to copy the image to FLASH:
They are defiantly labelled as 887 VA, not VA W or any other model.
I'm really at a loss so any help would be appreciated.
Cheers :)

Post the entire boot-up process. I want to see where it is failing.

Can you post what happens if you enter the command "boot flash:c880data-universalk9-mz.156-3.M.bin"?

Hi Leo,
rommon 20 > boot flash:c880data-universalk9-mz.156-3.M.bin
loadprog: error - Invalid image for platform
e_machine = 180, cpu_type = 221
boot: cannot load "flash:c880data-universalk9-mz.156-3.M.bin"
Thanks!!! Completely at a loss as to why it believes this image is incorrect. It's clearly not.

Just tried to TFTP the image back up from a Windows machine, same thing.

Compare the MD5 hash value of the file against the MD5 hash value found in the Cisco website.

Hi Leo,
Yes, that's one of the first things I checked. The MD5 hash matches perfectly.
Cheers!

Downgrade the IOS. Could be an IOS bug.
09-09-2016 06:20 AM
Thanks, I've found the issue. The culprit was indeed the wrong IOS. Cisco list both a C887 VA and an 887VA. Small subtly and I'm not sure what the difference is between models?
887-VA - c880data-universalk9-mz.154-3.M6.bin
C887-VA - c800-universalk9-mz.SPA.156-3.M.bin
Thanks for the assistance guys.
Cheers.
