I am having cisco 9407R with dual supervisor mode. Last update i did with issu upgrade.. Now i would like to downgrade the IOS, but i am unable to do it.

Current version: 17.6.1

Target version: 17.3.4

As rollback is not possible, Kindly let me know alternate way.

When checked the ISSU is showing in Progress state. Tried to abort and it is failing. Also tried rebooting the device, still same.

install abort issu
install_abort: START Tue Oct 11 15:30:59 UTC 2022

NOTE: Going to start Abort ISSU install process

Follow downgrade proceedure :

Downgrading in Install Mode

Follow these instructions to downgrade from one release to another, in install mode. To perform a software image downgrade, you must be booted into IOS via boot flash:packages.conf .

Never, ever believe in the hype about ISSU &/or FSU/eFSU.
ISSU &/or FSU/eFSU usually work in "corner cases" like labs or demos.

ISSU process has "crashed" and locked up.  The supervisor cards will need to be rebooted.

Once the supervisor cards have returned, upgrade the firmware using the CLI:

install add file bootflash:cat9k_iosxe.17.03.05.SPA.bin activate commit

This script will perform the following tasks:

  1. Copy the firmware file from the Primary supervisor card to the Secondary supervisor card.
  2. Extract all the package files into the Primary
  3. Extract all the package files into the Secondary
  4. Change the packages.conf file to the new version
  5. Reboot both chassis simultaneously.

Do not forget to read the Release Notes!

Thanks Leo, for the detailed step.. Kindly let me know if we have any commands for reloading the supervisors remotely or let me know if we need to reboot the supervisor manually.

Use the "reload" command.
