We have an ASA5506 that was initially configured via CLI. We now want to access it via ASDM but are worried that when we do that the settings will be dropped and reset. It's in a LIVE Environment and we certainly would prefer not to take the network down. So two questions:
1. Can we use ASDM without risking losing out settings?
2. Which is a better way to go - Java or Desktop?
Thanks much in advance.

Hi -
You can use both interchangeably. If using both at the same time ASDM will detect changes and prompt you to re-sync the configuration cached in the GUI.
Most dedicated ASA engineers I've met use both. Some tasks are just faster on one versus the other.
