I've decided to sell my Cisco ASA 5506-X to a friend of mine. Before handing it over, I would like to remove all passwords, password backups if any, and of course the configuration settings of the device. I haven't logged into the ASA for quite some time. I'm not sure if resetting the ASA to factory defaults would do the trick or not. Anyone have any ideas on how to reset an ASA 5506-X without the chance of any passwords or settings being recovered? Thanks.

Paul...thank you for the reply. I logged into the ASA and typed write erase as you suggested. However, when I type: show running-config , I can see my encrypted password and all of the settings that I applied when I first configured the device. Do I need to restart the ASA in order for the configuration to be erased? Any ideas?

Yes, after you erased it, you need to restart your device so that it takes effect.
