Hi all
We have a Cisco ESW-520-8P- K9 POE switch that i would like to use for my IP security cameras and each of them require 7.5watts.
I have noticed within the configuration of the switch you can nominate how much power goes to each port and as a default all ports are set to 15400, is the power sent to the device dictated by this setting with in the switch? or is the amount of power provided to each port determined by the requirement?
e.g Port set within config to 15.4w and you plug in a camera that only needs 7.5w = camera goes boom?
or
Port set within config to 15.4w and you plug in a camera that only needs 7.5w = port only supplies 7.5w

Depends if the device talks CDP or not.
By default, 15.4w of powered is delivered to the port. If the power-end device doesn't talk CDP then there's no way for the switch to automatically determine how much is the power draw.
You'll need to manually configure the port to deliver 7.5w PoE.
Whether or not a powered device will go *kaboom* will depend entirely on how "shonky" the device is constructed. I would presume the answer is no.

Hi
Thanks for the response
I am not sure if it is CDP, this is the camera here http://www.hikvision.com/En/Products_show.asp?id=7872
If not i assume the setting being 15400 on the switch is in milliamps so 7.5w would be 7500

That is correct.
You've got several "choices" to use. I'd recommend either "power inline auto 7500" or "power inline consumption 7500".
