Cisco MRP and Spanning Tree

Dear all,

I am currently dealing with 2 IE-2000-8TC-G-E (FW 15.2.4) and 2x Nexus 5596UP. The Nexus switches are connected via vPC and the 2 IE-2000 switches are connected via a port-channel to each switch and all is ok. So far so good.

Now I need to enable MRP on the 2 IE-2000 and as soon as I do that, I can see a mac flap on the IE-2000. please see the partial config below:

IE-2000_1

Manager:

mrp ring 1

mode manager

vlan-id 48

int range fa1/7-8

switchport mode trunk

swi non

mrp ri 1

int po1

desc Uplink to Core

swi mode trunk

swi non

int ran g1/1-2

swi mo trunk

swi non

channel-group 1 mode passive

IE-2000_2

Client:

mrp ring 1

mode client

vlan-id 48

int ran fa1/7-8

swi mode trunk

swi non

mrp ring 1

int po1

desc Uplink to Core

swi mode trunk

swi non

int ran g1/1-2

swi mo trunk

swi non

channel-group 1 mode passive

The MRP Ring is closed and on the IE-2000_1 ( MRP Manager) port fa1/8 is block, shown in the output of the show mrp ring command.

As long as the 2nd IE-2000 switch is not connected to the Coreswitches, all is good, but as soon it connects, the switches report macflap in vlan 48 seen on port fa1/7 and po1.

Any help is much appreciated.

Cheers

Thorsten
