Just insert the second supervisor in the chassis and make sure both supervisor engines have the same amount of memory and IOS, and obviously they have to be the same model...
then do the following commands:
Router(config)# redundancy
Router(config-red)# mode sso
And check the status using this command:
Router# show redundancy states

Firstly, what kind of supervisor card is the current and the redundant? "sup720" is not accurate because there are serveral "sup720" and I can't read minds.
Both cards must be the same model. If both cards are VS-Sup720 then what IOS are you running? Redundancy card support for VS-Sup720 requires SXI4. Because SXI4 has some critical bugs, go for SXI4a or later. You can also try SXJ.
And if it's not a VS-Sup720 make sure both cards are running the same IOS and the same feature set.

Leo,
Have you noticed the big change in SXJ code?

I've heard whispers about the failure to promote the modular IOS. I also remembered in one of your post to confirm that the future development of the modular IOS is ending.
That's why we moved from modular to "regular" when we started using SXI.

That is correct. I had a meeting with 6500 BU about a year ago, and that is when they toled me modular code is going away due to no market demand.
One of the bigest issue I found out during testing was that the CPU utilization on a modluar code was always higher then non-modular code. It really did not provide any benefit that I can think of. It is also less complicated now with less code to worry about.
