Cisco switch 10G copper

Hello,

We need to purchase 10Gb copper switch to connect some servers that support 10Gb speed and found these switches but different categories:

-Small Business: CBS350-48XT-4X

-Catalyst: C9300X-48TX

Appreciate your help to know the different between the two catagories.

Thanks

The two major differences are: features and cost.  The 9300 is about twice the cost of the CBS350, just to purchase.  The former, I believe may have on-going licensing costs and optional maintenance contract costs too.

Hi,

Further to what has already been written, I just want to add that In C9300X-48TX you have the option of adding a 25/40/100Gig module for uplinks.
Maybe this is something worth considering if servers are connected to the switch with 10Gig ports.

The catalyst or small business switches are not designed for server or data center use. For servers, VMs, and storage, you should use Nexus.

Have a look at the link below for multiple options using copper switches.

Reza makes an excellent suggestion of using a Nexus!  They are, as he describes, designed for DC usage.

Much would depend on whether only servers will be connected to the switch.

Compared to the CBS and Catalyst switches, a Nexus generally offers less features but they are also much better at moving lots and lots of bits.  (It's easy to think a switch x speed port is the same between switches, and regarding sending or receiving one frame, often they are almost the same, but dealing with more than a single frame can be quite different.)

Price wise, likely more expensive than a CBS, might be about comparable to a Catalyst.

BTW, link provided doesn't want to open (quickly), so I've been unable to view it.

Joe,

I have no problem opening the link. Posting it again in case something was missing originally.

Thanks.

Able to open link on my desktop.  Earlier trying to open on my phone, which was what was having the problem.

I would never encourage/recommend anyone with Small Business switches, routers, access points, etc.  And this extends to "Catalyst" 1200 & 1300.  If I am not mistaken, CBS350 is already past End-of-Sale (30 May 2024).

CBS-range routers & switches have a short "shelf life" compared "real" Catalyst range.  TAC support will be questionable plus software vulnerability support will be the first one to stop.

But I unanimously agree with @Reza Sharifi -- Get Nexus.

Otherwise, get a Catalyst 9300/9300X and do not (ever) complain of "performance" issue(s) with the 10 Gbps server (due to excessive total output drops).
