whether 2960 is a l2 layer or l3 layer
Layer 2 only.
Layer 2 switch. Although it may be L3 functions (ACL,QoS,IPSG, etc.) , it's NOT LAYER 3 switch.
Because it does not have IP Routing Capability.
Cisco introduced Layer 3 switching on the 2960S, 2960G, 2960, and 2975 series switches when running the LAN BASE IOS with version 12.2(55)SE.But there’s a small catch…it does NOT support RIP, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, or routed interfaces. It ONLY supports 16 static routes with SVIs.http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst2960/software/release/12.2_55_se/configuration/guide/swipstatrout.htmlHope this helpsSent from Cisco Technical Support iPhone App
