Cisco switch CLI connection

Hi,

I'm trying to set up a network for the organization I'm currently posted at and in order to do that I need to access the CLI of the following switch:

  • Cisco SG500-52P 52-port Gigabit POE Stackable Managed Switch

The console port of the switch is DB9 (male) and not RJ45, so I cannot connect the regular RJ45 - DB9 cable to my pc's DB9 (male) console port. What I did was buy a DB9 (female) to DB9 (female) cable and even though the connection seems fine I'm not getting anything on putty's terminal. The settings I'm using for my serial connection (which I've cross checked from various sources) are the following:

  • Speed: 115200
  • 8 data bits
  • 1 stop bit
  • No parity
  • No flow control

What could I be doing wrong? My pc's console port definitely works since I tested it on another device with the regular blue RJ45-DB9 cable and COM2 is the right serial line. Are RS232 and DB9 the same thing? Cause the cable I bought didn't list RS232 anywhere and had "null" instead.

Any help is appreciated.

If you got Male to Female DB9 Cable should work.

if you not you can also connect your Laptop and config on ethernet.

How to Ask The Cisco Community for Help

Hi

 Try to use 9600 instead.

But this switch already have IP address on the boot (192.168.1.254). Put your notebook on the same network and configure using  gui mode.
