Cisco Switch ME-3600X-24FS-M VS WS-C3750X-24S-S

I'm looking for a 24-port SFP switch. Each of the two switches in the subject meets that requirement.  If I went with the ME switch over the 3750 (at about half the cost).

ME-3600 also have L3 feature. For now i still not sure what is different between these. Please give some advises.

Thanks,

Mano

Dear Alyza,

Thanks for your support. what i looking for is L3 that have 24 SFP ports.

I looking for catalyst 3850 with 24 SFP port and ME Switch 24 SFP port. Price very different.

Feature that i want is SVI HRSP OSPF and some layer 3 for enterprise support.

Any advise for that case?

Hi Lenperez

We recently upgrade our access switch from 3750 to 3750X.

but Cisco website recommend 3850.

Our switch is mainly for user connecting their PCs to the network so should we go 3850 or

stay with 3750-X or 3760x .

Please advise

Thanks

Peter

Cisco ME Switch also support L3 feature like OSPF SVI HSRP ACL ? all these are what i need.

I know ME Switch is use for SP but if it can meet my requirement and price is better that Cisco Catalyst i will prefer it.

Not enough info.  Exactly what are you trying to achieve?

3750X maybe a Layer 3 switch but 3750X supports only VRF-lite and cannot support MPLS/VRF.

My requirement that i need are some L3 feature like OSPF HSRP ACL SVI. If ME Switch can support these feature i will prefer it because price almost half different.

Thanks for you advice

And how many SFP ports do you need?  I agree with Joseph, the 3750X can be stacked.  If you need more than 24-port SFP then 3750X would be sufficient.  If you need less than 24-ports SFP then either an ME-3800 or a 4500X (with modular SFP ports) can be considered.

NOTE:  Due to some IOS-XE issues with 3850, I will not be recommending this model.

The 3750-X series is stackable (both data and power), the ME switches are not.

The 3750-X series is oriented to typical LAN L3 switch usage, the ME switches are oriented to working with Metro Ethernet, also as a service provider.

Lenperez's post has many more details.

Which switch is best for your usage, as Leo asks, depends on what you want to achieve or your networking requirements.

Hi Joseph,

what about the 3850 series which Cisco is pushing on their web site.

Our network requirements are for connectivity to the network from users' PC.

so what features should we look for ?

Thanks

Peter

The 3850 (and 3650) series, are really the successors for the 3750-X series, although, neither might have a 24-SFP model.

As to what features to look for, those would be whatever you believe you need.  For basic L2 and L3 features, either will likely suffice.

neither might have a 24-SFP model.

3850-12S & 3850-24S has been available for the last few months.

Whether or not IOS-XE is stable or not is a debate.
