Dear All,
My Cisco Catalyst 6509 VSS switch have the following strange syslog message :
Dec 17 12:23:36.591: %SM-SW1_SP-4-PERSIST: Persistent event 'link_down' did not leave the current state 'link_down': pm_port 34/7
Dec 17 12:23:36.600: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface GigabitEthernet2/2/7, changed state to down
Dec 17 12:23:36.599: %LINK-SW1_SP-3-UPDOWN: Interface GigabitEthernet2/2/7,changed state to down
Please advice me what the "%SM-SW1_SP-4-PERSIST" mean? ( Please do not post the comment from Cisco error message decoder )
Best Regards,
Jackson Ku

Jackson,
Dec 17 12:23:36.591: %SM-SW1_SP-4-PERSIST: Persistent event 'link_down' did not leave the current state 'link_down': pm_port 34/7
SM ==> State Machine
SW1_SP ==> Switch Processor (SP) in Switch #1 of the VSS setup
4 ==> Severity Level of the message
PERSIST ==> Message type
PM ==> Port Manager (process managing the ports in VSS)
If 34/7 is a SPAN destination port, this message should be cosmetic, when the SPAN session becomes active (or configuring this port as SPAN destination). When a port transition from one state to other, the SM of the port report state change(s).
Please review following bug:
Hope this helps.

How can I check the physical port number which process manager? Such as the case , 37/4 is not the real port #, how can I know the real port number? Thanks!

Hello,
In VSS, please do "show switch virtual slot-map". The results should provide you the mapping between virtual slot # and physical switch/slot number.
From my lab setup:
VSS#sh switch virtual slot-map
Virtual Slot to Remote Switch/Physical Slot Mapping Table:
Virtual Remote Physical Module
Slot No Switch No Slot No Uptime
---------+-----------+----------+----------
17 1 1 3d16h
18 1 2 3d16h
19 1 3 -
20 1 4 -
21 1 5 3d16h
33 2 1 3d16h
34 2 2 3d16h
35 2 3 -
36 2 4 3d16h
37 2 5 3d16h
You can see here, Virtual slot 34 = Switch 2 / Module 2.
Hope this helps.

Yogesh
