Hi all,

I have to upgrade the IOS on below switch  to s2t54-ipservicesk9-mz.SPA.151-2.SY9.bin.

Most of the cisco forums suggest below steps

Option1

Step1. Copy the new image to bootdisk:

Step2. Change Boot variable using 'boot system; command

Step3. Verify new boot variable by 'show bootvar' command

Step4. Reload

Option2

There is also a command 'upgrade firmware'

Step1. Copy the new image to bootdisk:

Step2. Run 'upgrade firmware' command with path to new image in bootdisk:

Step3. Verify new boot variable by 'show bootvar' command

Step4. Reload

What are difference in these options ?

What are the options to Backout in case the new image causes any issue in network. ?

Hi

What are the options to Backout in case the new image causes any issue in network. ?

leave the current ios in flash/boot so if you have to roll back you can easily , its good practice to have multiple boot statements in your running-config for diff images in order of preferred one , that way if ios gets corrupted you can roll to another easily

My VSS

boot system flash bootdisk:s2t54-advipservicesk9_npe-mz.SPA.150-1.SY5.bin
boot system flash bootdisk:s2t54-advipservicesk9_npe-mz.SPA.122-50.SY3.bin
boot system flash bootdisk:s2t54-ipbasek9-mz.SPA.122-50.SY3.bin
boot system flash bootdisk:s2t54-ipbasek9-mz.SPA.122-50.SY.bin

upgrade firmware , you don't need to do this , when you upload and bring live new ios version in software the firmware is automatically upgraded with it
