Client has outgrown router

A client has outgrown their current workgroup router. They are approaching 250 workstations and their current DSL router will only handle 254. Can I get some recommendations for replacement? Specs are DSL WAN Internet access(max 1.5 mbps), should be able to handle 500 max clients, easy VPN configuration. They're a non-profit, so I need to keep cost down. Thanks!

Hello,

if the limit of 254 is based on the customer´s IP addressing (class C), you still could use secondary addressing on the same (Fast)Ethernet interface to extend that limit beyond the 254 clients.

If you are looking to upgrade your equipment, check out the Cisco 1841 router, which has two onboard 10/100 Ethernet ports and slots for DSL expansion. Here is the product sheet:

List price is $1,395.00...
