Can someone please point me to a good tool for comparing configs. I
messed up our configuration yesterday but luckily saved it beforehand.
Thank you,
Thomas

My favorite is UltraCompare. It's a commercial product but it has some great features the freeware stuff doesn't.

Try Winmerge, I use it sometimes to compare configs.

I like to use Kiwi CatTools. They have a free version for up to 20 devices. You can set it to automatically download your router and switch configs daily and then send you an email notifying you of any changes and it shows the changes in a side by side comparison. Free version throws up a nag screen after 30 days. Can run as a service.

How about Notepad++, with the Comparison plugin?
It's not a dedicated "utility" per se as it's only really comparing two text files. But it's free, fast, and reliable.

Hello Thomas,
Few hardware also support inbuilt file comparision via. command
sh archive config differences
like I do it before and after IOS upgrade on 7600 platform
sh archive config differences disk0:Before disk0:After
which gives you output with + and - notation where "+" means command added in file:After and "-" means command not present in After file compare to Before file
