Configuring Layer3 Switch

It is possible, but it's going to depend on what protocol you'll want to use and the IOS version supporting that protocol. For example, BGP isn't supported in all ios versions so you'd need one that supported it if you wanted bgp support.

What model switch do you have?

Configuring Layer3 Switch

We planed for migration and now we have a plan to buy layer 3 switch which can handle 100 hosts(or even low, we can use older switches too for extra hosts) so could you suggest which layer3 switch model can best for us and we are using OSPF as a routing protocol.

For about 100 hosts on the "same" device, something like a dual stack of 3750-X with 48 ports might work for you with the IP Services feature set.

If you already have some L2 switches, you might use a single 3560-X, with 24 ports that has connections to the L2 switches.

Configuring Layer3 Switch

Hello,

Yes you can use OSPF on layer 3 switch. But you need to assign IP address first to an interface.

(config)# ip routing
(config)# int f0/1 (or whichever port you're using)
(config-if)# no switchport
(config-if)# ip address x.x.x.x y.y.y.y
(config-if)# no shut

Here is the link for OSPF configuration

please rate if this helps.

thanks
