Hi,
Over last few weeks we are having intermittent difficulties in
connecting to unix/microsoft servers, where our e mails and Microsoft documents are stored. We will get notices on pcs, that we are no longer connected to server, and after a few minutes or so, will be reconnected.
It seems to be happening with increased frequency recently. We have already changed the ports on catalyst 2950 but even then the issue is there.
Any idea on what this might be ? something to do with catalyst switch or servers itself ?

Hi Ade,
Can you check the interface on which the servers are connected, do you see some errors incrementing.
It could be mostly a physical layer issue. Try to hard core the speed and duplex settings on the server and the switch and if that does not resolve your problem then try changing the cable between switch and the server.

Hi Ede,
The servers were connected with fasthethernet ports 1 and 2. I swapped these with ports 18 and 19 and below are the interface outputs for your further advice.

When I take the show logg command then I can`t see any errors that are related with the particular fastethernet interfaces. What do u means by hard core the speed and duplex settings ? Above outputs are showing different duplex speed i.e. 100MB/sec and 10MB/sec.

Ade,
Yes, your servers as hardcoded to 10 mbps and 100 mbps with full duplex. Please check the hosts ports as well. By that I mean try setting both the switch ports to Speed 100/duplex full. Both the sides (switch ports and NIC cards on the pc )should be hardcoded. This could be the Auto-negotiation issue between the switch ports and the NIC cards.
Check for the errors on the user ports as well and if possible try upgrading the drivers for the NIC. If you find no errors on th switch ports and if you feel the NIC drivers are OK then try changing the cables also between the switch ports and the user.
Show log command will not list you the interface errors. You have use the same command that you have used to chek the port 18 and 19 and check the iput errors part.
