I want to ask is it possible to convert a layer 3 switches into layer 2 switch.

hii, as per my experience the l3 switch would work as L2 only unless u gave command ip routing from CLI.

hiii i want to knw if ip routing is enable by default on l3 switches?

It is.. at least the 4948 series has it on by default..
As they l3 switches run IOS, and ip routing is turned on by default in IOS (I think since IOS 11 or so..) its a logical assumption that its on by default.

I had an experience on GNS3 lab, I had to use "no ip igmp snooping" on L3 switches that are to be used as L2.

Hello
Yes it is possible, as stated by @bmcginn just disable ip routing
As for if ip routing is enabled by default on l3 compatible switches, Usually in most cases it is not.

Yes, it is possible to configure a Layer 3 switch to function as a Layer 2 switch. A Layer 3 switch is capable of both Layer 2 switching and Layer 3 routing, but if you want it to behave purely as a Layer 2 switch, you can disable or avoid using its Layer 3 features like IP routing.
command to disable ip routing
no ip routing

BTW, although a couple replies describe all you need to do is disable IP routing, I recall (?) bumping into Cisco L3 switches that would not allow this. Recall (?) unable to disable IP routing on Catalyst chassis, was either a 4500 or 6500.
