Hello,
I have a stack setup of 4 3750 switches.
The 4th switch died and we are replacing it. The 4th switch had its IOS erased and we tried booting it with the new IOS (did not think to copy it first) on the stack via the boot command. Now the switch is stuck in rommon mode as there is no IOS on it. Is there a way we can transfer the IOS from any one of the switches in the stack to the 4th switch which is currently stuck in rommon mode remotely?
Thanks.

Hi,
You can't transfer the IOS from the other switches to the 4th switch since it is in rommon mode.
You can just download the same version of IOS as the other 3 switches from Cisco's web site and than use Xmodem to transfer it to the 4th switch. Once that is completed, you can than add it to the stack.

Hey Reza,
Thanks. I'm assuming there's no way of doing that remotely is there?

Ian,
Unfortunately no. Since the device is in rommon, you can't access it remotely.
You would have to provide instruction to someone at the site and use a console cable to do this.
It is also important to first separate it from the stack.

Ahh I thought so.
Thanks for the input.

Doing it via Xmodem should not take a very long time specially if you change the baud rate from default 9600 to 115200. Luckily the image on the older 3750s is not very large.
Don't forget to change it back to 9600 after the completion.
Thanks for the rating and good luck Ian!

Someone needs to physically be "up close and personal" with the switch.
XMmodem process, depending on the size of the BIN file, will take approximately 40-50 minutes.

Nope.
