Core and Access Switches

Dears,

I wanna propose a core distribution, server farm, and access layer switches also Datacenter firewall  for the client I want know to how I can calculate the throughput requirement for all these layers.

for example what I want to know is the below:

  1. If I have a 1 GIG 48 port on access layer how much bandwidth uplink I should consider for distribution and on what ratio.
  2. The uplinks coming from access layer on what ratio I should consider the distribution switch
  3. According to the uplinks on the distribution switch what Core switch I have to propose what will be the ratio ???
  4. DC firewall will be the user gateway to break the broadcast domain and between the distribution and the core it will be layer 3 routing, so we need to configure dynamic routing protocol on firewall so how we will judge the firewall throughput.
  5. which switch I have to propose for the server farm  on basis of what requirement ?? what I shld ask to the client for their server related queries to propose appropriate throughput server farm switch  and do I require a separate firewall for server farm switch and I shld configure the layer dynamic protocol in between the core and the server farm firewall ???  what requirements have to asked to the client before proposing the switch and the server farm firewall.
  6. The core will be completely doing routing without having any layer 2 domain ( spanning tree) terminating on the core
  7. If it is an existing setup how I can measure the throughput of my LAN.

Some points what I know to ask customer is their application running in the corporate but customer is not that much intelligent to provide you the bandwidth consumption.

Thanks

Dear Experts,

Please reply, hence I don't see my question is that much tricky to answer, agreed it is lengthy

thanks

Before starting with the throughput and performance, I would ask the following questions :
1. How many users are on the network
2. How many fiber SFP based ports are required. Likewise how many copper based ports
3. Requirement for POE
4. Only servers are connected ? i.e enterprise LAN is a separate implementation
5. Migration requirements i.e seamless migration with minimal downtime or remove and replace approach would be okay

Based on the answers of the above questions, will decide the architecture, traditional 3 tier, CLOS architecture, etc

Then will decide the switching and routing infrastructure keeping in mind the throughput requirements.

The answer is broad as it all depends :)

Dear

1. How many users are on the network------1000+
2. How many fiber SFP based ports are required. Likewise how many copper based ports--- this will be according to the number of users
3. Requirement for POE----yes Cisco  IP Telephony
4. Only servers are connected ? servers will be in the server farm the enterprise LAN user will access the servers in the server farm

i.e enterprise LAN is a separate implementation  ----access layer user will access the server in the server farm
5. Migration requirements i.e seamless migration with minimal downtime or remove and replace approach would be okay----assume 2 scenarios it is a new setup and also migration will take place.

Based on the information you have provided, I can think of these options :

1. Nexus 9K or 7K switches in the core as vPC and catalyst 9K switches in stack for server access. These stack of access switches can also be used to provide the required POE capability.
2. A pair of catalyst 9500 switches configured in stackwise virtual as cores and catalyst 9K switches in access. You can have 40G connections between the core and the stack switches
3. Lastly if you ready for SDN than you as well go via the Software Defined Access (DNA) route

Dear

Thanks for the reply, the answers what you gave me I have those in my mind before, but not with proper math's and justification.

I want to know the math's to justify the client.

Nobody can say any of the answer from the question above
