we are planning to upgrade the IOS for our core switch?
after next reload only it will work on that newly upgraded IOS?
can anybody say that software reboot is enough or physically power down the switch?
what is the difference between software and hardware reboot?which one is best to do?

Hi Vasanth,
Once you upload the new IOS and change the boot variable to it, you need to reload the switch.
You may use "reload " command to load the new ios.
1. Copy ios from tftp server or ftp server to bootflash or flash etc depending on your platform.
2. Change the boot varible
boot system <path of the new ios>
3. Write mem
4. reload
Hope this helps and kindly rate my post if it is useful
Thanks,
Madhu.

The main difference between the software reboot and a hard reboot is the state of the power supply. For obvious reason, the power supply is still running when doing a software reboot.
Which is better? Either one, whatever serves your better.
