I'm having an issue where I can't create an ip address on a switch port for a firewall. I've done it before on a non-HA setup where the connection was made on the core switch directly connected to the router. This time the connection will be on a distribution-layer vtp client switch. There is a staticly-mapped subnet on the router to a virtual address. Every time I want to just create a port with IP Address, it fails why?

Earl,
Did you remeber to do a no switch port on that port to make a routed port?
