Creating a new 3750 stack from existing configurations

Good Morning,

I have been tasked into stacking two of our distribution layer 3750-12S switches.

Both of these switches are managed individually via management addresses.

My main question is, when I have elected the master out of the two, will i have to clear the configuration on the second switch before connecting to the master?

We are hoping to do this in a live environment but it can be powered down if needed.

Any advise will be most appreciated.

Sully

Hi

This is how I would have done it

First check that the IOS are compatible.(same).

Backup the both configurations.

Erase the config on the one you want as non master

Pull the power on the one you want as non master.

Attach the datastack cables in a correct way.

Power on the non master

Let it join the stack (it will loose the master selection of stack due to the other switch beeing up and configured and so on.)

Check that the config of the stack works and recognices the new switch

Configure the new ports of the new stack.

Done

Good luck
