hi,

I am using SG300-10PP. Moved to L2 mode.  I am trying to move an interface to trunk port and encapsulation as dot1q.  But I am not getting a command for that.

# int gi7

# switchport mode trunk

# switchport trunk encapsulation

It says 'unrecognised command'.  Please tell how can I enable encapsulation mode as dot1q.

thanks in advance.

uv.

You had it almost right:

#switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q

Try using these links:

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/switches/catalyst-6000-series-switches/10599-88.html

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3560/software/release/12-2_25_sea/configuration/guide/3560scg/swvlan.html

I hope that helps,

Tim

hi tim,

That command is not supported in that model of switch.  It is small business switch.

------------------------------------

#switchport trunk ?

allowed

native

------------------------------------

encapsulation option is not coming.

Hi ISL is not in use anymore so your switch by default once set to trunk will be using dot1q

uv,

Here is another link https://tools.cisco.com/squish/77677 that might help you understand what Mark is saying.  switchport mode general is what the guide talks about too.  So, by default it is dot1q.

Thanks Mark,

Tim

Wow, sorry about that oversight on my part. Let me check the lab for that switch and I will get back with you.

Again sorry for that,

Tim
