Hi guys.
I have two switches:
WS-C2960XR-48TS-I
WS-C2960XR-24PS-I
I tried to stack these switches. I connected port 1 of SW1 to port 2 of SW2 and port 2 of SW1
then i configured a priority and stack-mac persistent timer 4:
sw1
Switch/Stack Mac Address : 38ed.1848.4400
Mac persistency wait time: 4 mins
H/W Current
Switch# Role Mac Address Priority Version State
----------------------------------------------------------
*1 Master 38ed.1848.4400 1 4 Ready
Stack Port Status Neighbors
Switch# Port 1 Port 2 Port 1 Port 2
--------------------------------------------------------
1 Down Down None None
sw2
Switch#show switch det
Switch/Stack Mac Address : f0b2.e5fd.3380
Mac persistency wait time: 4 mins
H/W Current
Switch# Role Mac Address Priority Version State
----------------------------------------------------------
*2 Master f0b2.e5fd.3380 2 4 Ready
Stack Port Status Neighbors
Switch# Port 1 Port 2 Port 1 Port 2
--------------------------------------------------------
2 Down Down None None
Switch#
Software version is same for both switches:
Cisco IOS Software, C2960X Software (C2960X-UNIVERSALK9-M), Version 15.0(2a)EX5, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc3)
Then i reloaded two switches at the some time but i see the state of both port is DOWN, could you help me?

sorry, I see you found the data sheet also. I am out of ideas. It should be working.
Can you post the full show version of both switches ?

Hi can you post show switch stack-ports
Have you tried to reseat the stack cables this can help, also shut both down start up the master wait 30 secs and then start the slave in case there having an issue negotiating
You could move off those EX IOS as well there known to be quite buggy , I see in your release notes a bug that may effect you and theres a few more stack bugs too
Unsetting the stack member numbers and then rebooting the switch stack can cause the stack to crash or cause the stack master election to stop.
– Manually assign stack member numbers to all switches in the stack, and then restart the stack.

I upgraded the soft of both switches till version 15.2(3)E2, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
can you post show switch stack-ports
Yes, i can, see the output below:
Switch#show swit stack-ports

Have you tried to reseat the stack cables this can help, also shut both down start up the master wait 30 secs and then start the slave in case there having an issue negotiating

hi Yulia,
If possible ... try connecting port 1 and 2 on the same switch. The ports should show as coming up. This will confirm if you have a problem with the ports or with the cables.
Regards,
Doron

Tried to connect port 1 and 2 on the same switch - all is ok for both switches:

Returned cables - doesn't work

One more thing ... I think your switches are running IP lite which does not support stacking.
Look at the show version or show license to confirm which license you have enabled.
09-17-2015 05:21 AM
Should i buy license for that? may be i'm using incorrect software image?
Switch#show license
Index 1 Feature: iplite
Period left: Life time
License Type: Permanent
License State: Active, In Use
License Priority: Medium
License Count: Non-Counted
I see that 2960XR ip lite supports FlexStack (see table 5)

Actually IP Lite on the XR switches does support stacking. See table 5 and 6 from the data sheet here.

sorry, I see you found the data sheet also. I am out of ideas. It should be working.
Can you post the full show version of both switches ?

What do you think of trying another version of IOS. The 15.0.2a.ex5 is the recommended version.
09-17-2015 06:11 AM
I checked this version yesterday :)
It doesn't work. Today i upgraded till latest available version.
